What is this feeling? There is a gentle, but noticeable hum travelling up and down my body. The bed underneath me is cradling me, but it’s almost as if I am floating above it. My mind is clear. Expectant. Like all the demons inside it have fled. Maybe it’s the idea of leaving Corin and heading somewhere new. Maybe it’s all of my enhanced ability becoming easier to master every day. A knock at my door pulls me aggressively out of my self-reflection. I sit up quickly, throwing my covers to the side. Shaw appears at the door, he smiles at me when he walks in.

“I had a feeling you were still asleep,” he says. His eyes flit upward and then back down. “You look rested.”

I touch the top of my head where he looked and feel how crazy my hair must look right now. “Funny,” I say.

“I try,” he says. “Gotta lighten the mood somehow. But, we’re getting ready to leave in about an hour. I wanted to make sure you were given time to get ready.” My cheeks grow hot and all I do is nod. “Well, I’ll see you downstairs.” And he closes the door behind him as he leaves.

I let out a breath. Or maybe it’s the boy who has somehow gained the ability to make me blush and want to shoot a fireball at his face all at the same time. I fling myself backward until my back bounces against the bed. I’ve got to get it together. Hate was a much easier emotion to give out. I get up out of the bed and rush into get ready.

After I’m ready, I meet our family downstairs in the family room. They each have a little bag on their back with a few belongings they’d need on our excursion. My chest jolts. The case that we had brought back from Regnum is sitting on the floor in front of Cyrus. It is full of the Shinori that we are going to use to make Demetrius’ soldiers. I go and stand next to Shaw. We all get ready to go through the portal to Zascaria in the basement.

We arrive at the station outside of the Fae High Court. Tall, jagged monuments made of the Earth’s minerals and stones extend into the purple-blue sky. The skies are also littered with the Fae flying through the air. I can’t help but notice how some of the Fae citizens are staring at me. I follow Shaw up the front of the palace where several guards are standing at the door. They give us all a strange look, but then welcome us, by bowing low to the ground.

“Greetings,” one of them says.

“My family and I request an audience with the Fae King and Queen,” says Shaw.

“We were not expecting you back so soon,” says the guard, looking directly at me. “I assure you that Zascaria is committed and dedicated to the Lorde Cornelius.
